The 2017-18 DJUSD Safety Task Force meetings identified the district's previous anonymous tip app as a concern in our schools and community. Beginning in the 2018-19 school year, DJUSD is moving to a new digital tip line called SpeakUp. SpeakUp enables junior high and high school students to easily report to school administrators concerns of bullying, student safety, threats and more by using their student DJUSD Google account. Orchestras Accepting Donations of String Instruments and Lightly Used Formal Dress Clothing

Do you have a previously used instrument you would like to donate? Do you have any outgrown and lightly used student sized formal concert dress clothes that you don’t need?

Instrument Donations

We are now accepting donations of previously used and no longer needed string instruments of all sizes to help our ever growing program and the ever growing Elementary Strings Program. Your previously used instrument/bow/case/equipment can be donated to DSOMA, in exchange for a tax write-off. Please see their website www.dsoma.org, for more information.

Instrument Donation Drop Off:  Instruments may be dropped off Emerson-Da Vinci or Harper Jr. High Schools over the next week or two, but I ask to please also email me to let me know it is in the office so I may pick it up. Please also include information on the original cost of the instrument/bow/case (receipt or otherwise), and your contact information, either on paper or through email to me, so the booster club may send you a note of receipt for your taxes. During summer, please email me (gbrucker@djusd.net) to set up a drop off time/location. We will also gladly take donations at the beginning of the school year.

Clothes Closet

For many years, our boosters have run an annual “Clothes Closet” clothing exchange for our formal concert dress clothes. As we know the kids grow quickly at this age, they can grow out of clothes after one wear; and knowing that clothes aren’t cheap, especially if you have to purchase multiple sets in a year (even one set can be a lot!), we have for a long time run, and will be restarting our “Clothes Closet” clothing exchange for next year.

The “Clothes Closet” is where you can either donate lightly used and laundered formal concert dress clothes that don’t fit, or pick up the right size for your jr. high or high school student. So, in the meantime, we are asking for donations to help us build up our collection of clothes to help with next year’s concerts. If your child has grown out of their dress clothes from this year, please send them in with your child to the music room, and all collected clothes will become part of what we can offer for next season. We will have an open exchange a few times before the first formal concert in December.

Clothes Donation Drop Off: All Donations of clothes can be dropped off with Mr. Brucker at either jr. high school over the next few weeks. Over the summer, if you wish to donate, please connect with Mr. Brucker at gbrucker@djusd.net or the boosters at president@dsoma.org to arrange for a drop off time/location. We will also accept items at the beginning of the next school year. All donations are tax deductible.

Many past donations are currently in use, and we cannot thank you enough for helping provide this great way to support our programs and students. If you have any questions, please let me know, and thanks again for your support!

-Mr. Brucker

Launching in early summer is the new DJUSD website, built with an eye toward making the experience for our end users even better. Our new website will make finding school district information easy and fast, with a dynamic look, improved navigation and ADA compliant platform, all at the same domain.  This is just one more step in our efforts to providing communication improvements for our school community.  And, watch for each of our school sites to roll out new websites throughout the 2018-19 school year.

Parents and Guardians,

Netflix’s  “13 Reasons Why” Season 2 releases tomorrow, May 18, 2018. Last year, when the first season of the Netflix series "13 Reasons Why" was released, many students in DJUSD were negatively impacted by the show's content. School counselors and Prevention & Crisis Managers supported students as young as 5th grade who were highly distressed as a result of watching the series. While the series can provide an opportunity for discussion on important issues our youth face, the content from season one glamorized mean behaviors and inaccurately represented the responses of adults. For more information, visit the DJUSD Crisis Services page.

Warmly,

Your Prevention & Crisis Managers, Cara Messmore and Natalie Zehnder

Yesterday evening, Da Vinci High students and parents reported a concerning message posted to social media threatening a school shooting today. The Da Vinci administration received copies of this post and worked through the night with DJUSD Administration and the Davis Police Department to address the matter. While this investigation is ongoing we can confirm that the student that posted the message has been identified and will not be present on campus today. All schools in the Davis Joint Unified School District, including Da Vinci High School and the Valley Oak Preschool Programs are open today.

DJUSD Administrative personnel and Davis Police Department will be present on the Da Vinci High campus today to ensure student and staff well-being safety and address any questions they have. If you have information that might be helpful to the investigation, please contact Davis Police directly at 530-747-5400 and press "0" to reach Dispatch.

We understand that there are many students and families across our district that may share concerns about this matter. If you feel that your child needs support, please contact your school principal.

Student safety and the security of our schools is our top priority. We thank you for your support of students, staff and schools.

Warmly, Your Prevention & Crisis Managers, Cara Messmore and Natalie Zehnder

PARENT NEWS

Parents of 9th Grade Students- Freshman Trip- Your child’s Freshman Trip forms and donations are due this Friday by 4pm. Forms can be dropped off tomorrow during the Freshman Showcase, or turned in to the front office. Please make any donations payable to Harper PTO.
